Connecting Accounts
Connect your social media profiles to Picmim so you can publish, schedule, and track content from a single dashboard. This guide covers linking accounts for each platform, managing connections, and troubleshooting common issues.
Connecting a Social Account
Picmim uses secure OAuth connections to link your social profiles. You never share your passwords with us. The process takes just a few clicks per account.
- Go to Settings and select Connected Accounts.
- Click "Add Account" and pick the platform you want to connect.
- Log in to the platform using your credentials and authorise Picmim.
- Select which specific profiles or pages you want to manage (for platforms with multiple).
- Your account appears in the dashboard ready for publishing.
Supported Platforms
Picmim supports publishing and analytics for eight major social media platforms. Each has specific account requirements and capabilities.
- Instagram: Business and Creator accounts via a Meta-linked connection or Instagram Standalone.
- Facebook: Pages and Groups.
- LinkedIn: Personal profiles and Company pages (analytics are available for Company pages).
- X (Twitter): Standard accounts.
- TikTok: Business and Creator accounts with video posts and photo posts.
- Pinterest: Business accounts.
- YouTube: Channels with standard Google accounts.
- Bluesky: Standard accounts.
Instagram Setup
Picmim supports two Instagram connection paths. Use the Meta-linked Instagram connection or Instagram Standalone depending on how you prefer to sign in. Both connection paths support publishing, scheduling, and the same Picmim analytics views for supported Instagram metrics.
- Ensure your Instagram account is set to Business or Creator (not Personal).
- For the Meta-linked connection, link your Instagram account to a Facebook Page in the Instagram app settings.
- In Picmim, click "Add Account" and choose either Instagram or Instagram Standalone.
- Use the Instagram option if you want to sign in through your Meta-connected Instagram setup.
- Use Instagram Standalone if you want direct Instagram login without Facebook. It still supports publishing, scheduling, and the same Picmim analytics views for supported Instagram metrics.
- Finish the OAuth flow and select the Instagram account you want to connect.
Tip: Instagram Standalone uses the same Picmim analytics views and reporting for the supported Instagram metrics available in Picmim.
Warning: Personal Instagram accounts cannot be connected directly. Switch to a Business or Creator account for free in the Instagram app under Settings > Account.
Facebook Setup
Connect Facebook Pages and Groups to publish content and track performance. You need to be an admin or editor of the Page or Group to connect it.
- Click "Add Account" and select Facebook.
- Log in with your Facebook credentials.
- Grant Picmim permission to manage your Pages and Groups.
- Select which Pages and Groups you want to connect.
- Each Page or Group appears as a separate account in Picmim.
LinkedIn Setup
Connect your personal LinkedIn profile or Company pages. For Company pages, you need to be an administrator of the page to connect it. Company pages also expose the richest analytics through LinkedIn's API.
- Click "Add Account" and select LinkedIn.
- Log in with your LinkedIn credentials and authorise Picmim.
- Choose your personal profile, company pages, or both.
- Company pages require admin access on LinkedIn to connect.
Tip: Personal LinkedIn profiles can publish content, but Company pages have broader analytics support than personal profiles.
TikTok Setup
Connect your TikTok account to publish videos and photo posts directly from Picmim. TikTok photo posts currently accept JPEG and WebP images when publishing through the Content Posting API.
- Click "Add Account" and select TikTok.
- Log in to TikTok and authorise Picmim.
- Select your TikTok account.
- Attach either a video or a photo set. For photo posts, use JPEG or WebP images for the most reliable publishing results.
Tip: Use Picmim's video optimisation to ensure your videos meet TikTok's resolution and duration requirements before publishing.
Troubleshooting Connection Issues
If you experience issues connecting or publishing to a social account, these steps resolve the most common problems.
- Token expired: Click "Refresh" next to the account in Settings. Re-authorise when prompted.
- Permission changes: If you changed your social account password, reconnect the account in Picmim.
- Page admin removed: If you lost admin access to a Facebook or LinkedIn page, the connection breaks. Regain admin access and reconnect.
- Publishing fails: Check that the content meets platform limits (character count, media type, file size).
- Account shows as disconnected: Try refreshing the token. If that fails, disconnect and reconnect the account.
Managing Connected Accounts
Review, refresh, or disconnect accounts at any time from the Connected Accounts settings page. Monitor connection health and act quickly when tokens expire.
- Go to Settings and select Connected Accounts.
- View the status and last sync time for each connection.
- Click "Refresh" if a token has expired or you see sync errors.
- Click "Disconnect" to remove an account from your workspace.
- Disconnected accounts can be reconnected at any time.
What Data Picmim Accesses
Picmim only requests the minimum permissions needed to publish content and retrieve analytics for your connected accounts. We never access your private messages, contacts, or personal data beyond what is required.
- Publishing: Permission to create and publish posts on your behalf.
- Analytics: Permission to read engagement metrics and audience data for your posts.
- Profile info: Basic profile details (name, follower count) to display in the dashboard.
- Media: Permission to upload images and videos to your accounts.
- You can review and revoke these permissions at any time from the platform's app settings.
